February 2020 – Understanding Women’s Health in Cowichan workshop

In the Cowichan Valley, many women’s health needs are not being met, or at least not in their entirety. That is the message from the Understanding Women’s Health Needs in Cowichan: Creating a Vision for the Future workshop held in Duncan on February 12, 2020. The participants, primarily service providers from various agencies tasked with meeting women’s health needs, came from a broad diversity of backgrounds and positions. As part of the workshop, they identified a number of strategies and next steps to address these issues:

1. Creating a report to help advocate for policy change and funding

2. Mapping the existing women’s health and community services ecosystem

3. Continuing to share information, developing relationships, and exploring ways to support women

4. Collaborating & finding ways to continue our education on women’s health issues

5. Establishing a Women’s Health Centre

6. Increase transportation options to health care
